Chantelle Huang,Society Director of HIYA—Mirror World: Reflecting Artistic "Reflections"
In recent years, when entering various art exhibition centers, it is not difficult to find artworks in which mirrors are the main medium in installation art. The history of mirrors as an artistic material can be traced back to ancient Rome, where the first mirrors were made of bronze and had blurred reflection effects. Later, Venetians invented modern mirrors made of a tin and mercury alloy, resulting in refined and detailed reflection effects, suitable for indoor decoration, furniture, and optical instruments. Today, mirrors have become more than just objects; they serve as a source of inspiration for many contemporary artists and are widely used in art creation。

Through the reflective and refractive effects of mirrors, installation art successfully created unique visual effects even before the advent of photography and cinematography techniques. Mirror art works are not only three-dimensional and abundant, but also possess strong interactivity, constantly enticing people to explore their mysteries. By utilizing the distortion and deformation of mirrors, mirror artists often create visual geometric patterns and ever-changing multiple reflections, allowing viewers to experience infinite visual enjoyment and spiritual stimulation.

Mirrors are not just canvases; they are mediums through which artists express their thoughts and ideas. The mirrors in mirror art evoke contemplation and appreciation for reflection and refraction while stimulating rich imagination and sensory experiences. They have become a challenging and entertaining art form. For instance, in 2021, Yayoi Kusama's large-scale immersive mirror installation artwork "Infinity Mirrored Room," held in Australia, provided viewers with an immersive experience of Kusama's unique artistic world through the effect of mirrored reflections. This allowed viewers to feel her distinctive spiritual atmosphere and rich connotations. Additionally, in a recent local exhibition titled "Memory of Touch," there were exhibited artworks created by local artists using mirrors. Viewing these artworks from different angles offered viewers varied sensations and layers of interpretation. It is inspiring to witness the integration of mirrors into the creative process of local artists, further contributing to the diverse and engaging art scene within our community.

The mirrors in mirror art reflect the artist's inspirations and creations, showcasing exquisite techniques and intricate production processes. With the continuous advancement of technology and the innovation of artists, mirror art has matured and diversified, constantly bringing people new surprises and astonishment.
