Here is the English translation of the poem "寧靜的歐洲小鎮(zhèn)" (Tranquil European Town):
---
**Tranquil European Town**
*By Li Wenhui*
Staying temporarily in a European town,
A delicate little wooden cottage
That seems to take me back to wild, carefree childhood days—
Hearth fire, blue smoke, wooden table and stools.
Outside, flowers bloom idly
Like beautiful maidens who’ve done only the simplest grooming.
The creek’s water runs clear and bright;
Not far off, cattle and sheep graze,
As if they’ve taken themselves as pets,
Swaying slowly, ringing their bells.
Occasionally, a fair-haired lady passes by—
Only a slight surprise exchanged between us.
An air of strangeness, a peace unknown,
A synesthetic feeling of being cut off from the world.
Not far in the distance, snow-capped mountains
Stand like scrubbed glass.
On nights when the moon rises,
I recall the comfort of sitting beside my mother in moonlight as a child.
The moon travels across the sky;
I take out my violin and play a song—
Its sound crisp and lingering.
On a balcony not far away,
Two fair-haired and blue-eyed little girls watch.
Staying temporarily in this strange, natural European town,
With a carefree heart, even in rain, I never need an umbrella.

### Translation Notes:
Corrected to "仿佛" (as if / seem like) as it fits the context of reminiscence.
Adjusted to "粗獷" (wild, unrestrained) to describe the rustic freedom of childhood.
3. **Cultural Nuances**
- "金發(fā)女郎" → "fair-haired lady" (retains the imagery without over-emphasis).
- "金發(fā)碧眼的小姑娘" → "fair-haired and blue-eyed little girls" (preserves the vivid detail).
- "與世隔絕的通感" → "synesthetic feeling of being cut off from the world" (combines sensory and emotional isolation).
4. **Poetic Imagery**
- Flowers as "maidens who’ve done only the simplest grooming" → captures the lazy elegance.
- Mountains "like scrubbed glass" → emphasizes crystalline purity.
- "Rain without an umbrella" → symbolizes unburdened tranquility.
5. **Rhythm & Tone**
Used concise phrasing and flowing cadence to mirror the poem’s meditative calm (e.g., "swaying slowly, ringing their bells," "crisp and lingering").
The translation aims to preserve the quiet wonder and cross-cultural resonance of the original, where foreign landscapes become mirrors for inner peace.
