Zhongyuan Festival: In Memory of My Parents
by Liang Sheng
【Note】The 15th day of the seventh lunar month is the annual Zhongyuan Festival. In some regions of southern China (such as Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hong Kong), the 14th day of the seventh lunar month is observed as the Zhongyuan Festival (also known as the "Ghost Festival"). On the evening of the 14th, spirits emerge, and on the evening of the 15th, they return. On the 16th, incense is offered to honor the ancestors (referred to as "Bogong" in some dialects), allowing them to "wear the new clothes" we have presented and attend the market (known as "dengxu" in Taishan, Guangdong). This poem is written in memory of my parents, who are now in heaven. May they rest in peace.
Another Zhongyuan year passes in the blink of an eye,
My heart aches with longing, keeping me awake at night.
Over a decade has passed since my parents left this world,
Yet my heart finds solace knowing their spirits rest in their homeland.
Though separated by the boundaries of life and death,
In dreams, memories bring tears that flow unrestrained.
Their voices, faces, and teachings remain unforgettable,
Etched in my heart, remembered and cherished year after year.
