Seven-character Octave · Ode to Peonies
By Song Xiujie
Dreams of Luochuan linger on Jade Terrace, sweet and deep,
It loves to bloom on earth, unfolding step by step.
In Cold Food Festival, red jade stamens dare to peep,
Late spring reveals its cheeks like purple clouds, soft and prep.
Pure heart is gifted with celestial fragrance and hue,
Its noble integrity defied Empress Wu’s decree.
She once commanded all flowers to grass turn anew,
Yet when glory fades, it will bloom again, fair and free.
